Prophecy is a 1979 horror film directed by John Frankenheimer serving as an ecological warning against the growing problem of industrial pollution. In the rural Maine countryside, growing toxicity has resulted in the birth of a horrific monster driven to madness known by local legend as the Katahdin. Dr. Robert Verne (Robert Foxworth) is working for the EPA and travels to the region with his pregnant wife, Maggie (Talia Shire), with the intent of resolving a dispute between the local logging company and the Native Americans of the region. While working with the locals, he begins investigating a series of local disappearances, which brings him into contact with strange mutations occurring in the region. As he tests and samples the soil and waters he finds links to industrial pesticide and waste from a local paper mill to horrific mutated wildlife. As Verne uncovers the terrifying secrets behind contaminated and mutated creatures, the Katahdin appears seeking to eliminate all intruders into its wilderness.
