Protocol is a 1984 comedy directed by Herbert Ross. Sunny Ann Davis (Goldie Hawn) is unhappy with her life. The ditzy young woman works as a cocktail waitress in Washington, D.C. Despite her good looks, she has not been able to find a man who captures her heart. Feeling despondent one evening, Sunny pauses on her way home to watch dignitaries leaving an event. When she accidentally winds up deflecting a bullet that was meant for a visiting Emir (Richard Romanus), Sunny wakes up in a hospital bed with a totally different life. The media is clamoring to hear the story of the plucky young waitress who saved her country from scandal. Once people are actually listening to her, Sunny finds that she is a celebrity. She accepts a new job with the Protocol Department, happy to leave her days of waiting tables behind. Michael Ransome (Chris Sarandon) is a fellow government worker who helps show her the ropes, but neither Michael nor Sunny could guess what is about to happen next. Even Sunny's charm might not be able to save her when she becomes a pawn in a complicated plot.moreless
