Puccini is a biographical documentary of the life and achievements of Giacomo Puccini (Gabrielle Ferzetti), a renowned composer and musician of the twentieth century. The film chronicles his rise to success, starting with his early childhood and family life. He was born in Tuscany, Italy to a family with a long history in music. After the death of his father when he was five years old, he was placed under the care of his uncle. From here he began his studies into music theory and the arts. The film also takes a look at his love life. He eventually marries a fairly average woman, Elvira Puccini (Marta Toren), after a couple of failed romances. His first compositions were made with the Church in mind, as he had an upbringing with a strong emphasis on the importance of religion. Included in the biography are several of Puccini's musical compositions, such as Turandot, La Boheme, and Madama Butterfly.
