Pure is a 2002 British film directed by Gillies MacKinnon and starring Molly Parker, Harry Eden, David Wenham, and Keira Knightley. When 10-year-old Paul's father dies, he must then take care of his mother Mel (Parker) and his younger brother. To cope with the loss, Mel develops a drug addiction. Mel regularly asks Paul (Eden) to help her with her medicine, though Paul only later realizes what he is doing. After his friends make fun of Mel for being a junkie, Paul understands that the medicine he has been giving her is actually heroin. He befriends a pregnant waitress Louise (Knightley), who is also a drug addict. Paul asks Louise for help in confronting his mother about her addiction, for fear of losing her as well. Also starring Marsha Thomason, Geraldine McEwan, Gary Lewis, and Kate Ashfield, Pure won the Emden Film Award and the Emden International Film Festival.
