Purple Violets is a love story about a lost woman. Patti Petalson (Selma Blair) is a thirty-something living in New York who is still stinging from a failed career and lost love. Her dream was to be a successful novelist who is hopelessly in love. Instead, she is selling real estate after a brief and unsuccessful foray into writing, and her husband hardly notices her anymore. One night, she goes out to dinner with her friend Kate Scott (Debra Messing). A casual outing turns into a powerful reminiscence when they run into a couple of familiar faces. Brian (Patrick Wilson) and Murph (Edwards Burns) are out palling around and run into the two women. Murph had formerly been in a relationship with Kate, and Brian had dated Patti in college. Brian has now made a career for himself in writing, but he too is without a meaningful love life. The two begin a conversation that gives rebirth to old emotions, but both are afraid of what that might mean.moreless
