Quarantine is the 2008 remake of Jaume Balaguer''s acclaimed Spanish language horror film Rec. Story follows an up and coming television news reporter named Angela (Jennifer Carpenter, Dexter) who, while profiling the firefighters at a local firehouse ' getting chummy with Jake the Fireman along the way (Jay Hernandez, Hostel, Hostel 2, Carlito's Way Rise to Power, Crazy/Beautiful, The Rookie), tags along on an emergency call from a tenement building that is soon put under heavy lockdown with them inside it ' although they soon find they are not alone. The tenants of the building are infected with something 'a particularly virulent and vicious strain of rabies ' and have turned into ravening zombies who are soon after our intrepid reporter, her cameraman Scott (Steve Harris, The Practice, Minority Report, The Rock) and her fireman friend. As all contact with the outside world is lost, Angela documents the carnage and the group's efforts to stay alive.

Metacritic Score

  • 60

The New York Times Jeannette Catsoulis

The template is familiar, but Quarantine delivers the heebie-jeebies with solid acting and perfectly calibrated shocks.

  • 50

    Los Angeles Times

Shame as well upon the advance marketing department for blowing the end of the movie in ads, thus exorcising any ghost of a chance Quarantine had of issuing a surprise.

  • 50

    Variety Joe Leydon

A modestly inventive, sporadically exciting thriller that nonetheless proves too faithful to its central conceit for its own good.
