Queen of the Yukon is a 1940 western adventure based on a book of the same name written by Jack London. The story follows Sadie Martin (Irene Rich), a tough talking riverboat owner who transports gold-miners to their claims while allowing them to drink and gamble. Sadie is plagued by financial problems. In order to bring her daughter, Helen (June Carlson), back from boarding school she is forced to sell her boat. John Thorne (Melvin Lang) of The Yukon Mining Company, agrees to buy it. As soon as John takes over, however, he begins swindling miners out of their claims. When Helen arrives in the Yukon with her boyfriend Bob (Dave O'Brien), the two are shocked to learn Sadie's true vocation. Bob, being somewhat naive, begins working with John who manipulates him to doing his bidding. Regretting her decision to sell, Sadie elicits the help of her ex-partner Ace (Charles Bickford) and the duo begin a fight to regain control over the riverboat.
