Rachida is a look at the ongoing terrorism that plagues the African country of Algeria. The story revolves around an elementary school teacher, Rachida (Ibtissem Djouadi), who is confronted in the streets and told to place a bomb in her school. She refuses and is shot, but somehow survives and heads back to a remote village to recover under the care of her mother. She still lives in fear from the evil that plagues her nation and eventually it shows itself, even in the remote village in which Rachida now resides. There are constant terrorist raids, women raped and people killed. The brutality of the country was based on the raging civil war that plagued Algeria in the 1990's and the sitting government's desire to maintain its power. Despite all that happened to Rachida and the people around her, amidst a firestorm of cultural and political turmoil, hope is portrayed.
