1984
Rating:
PG

Racing with the Moon is a romantic drama masterfully directed under the eye of Richard Benjamin, who crafts a wonderful period piece that brings small-town, World War II America to life in stunning and vibrant detail. This film was the movie that made a star out of Sean Penn and tells the story of Henry (Sean Penn) and Nicky (Nicholas Cage) as two friends spending their last six weeks together before being shipped overseas to war. Elizabeth McGovern delivers a heart-wrenching role as Henry's girlfriend, Caddie Winger, a woman torn between doing what she believes is right and being true to who she really is. What results is a remarkable tale of the uncertainty of war, the passions of youth and the friends with which it is all shared. Racing with the Moon is such a captivating film that minutes in viewers will find themselves immersed in the moment and for a brief while, the world around them will be forgotten.
