Radio Flyer is a 1992 drama about two young boys who endure abuse at the hands of their stepfather. After seeing his two boys fight with each other, a father named Mike (Tom Hanks) tells them the story about when he and his brother were young. After being left by her husband, Mary (Lorraine Bracco) takes her two sons, Mike (Elijah Wood) and Bobby (Joseph Mazzello), to live in a new town. There she meets a new man whom the boys refer to as the King (Adam Baldwin). Though Mary is happy with the King, the boys endure constant violence from him when he gets drunk. Desperate to see their mother happy, they say nothing. Instead, they concoct elaborate fantasies about the world around them in order to escape from the King's abuse. The most profound fantasy involves their Radio Flyer wagon, which they convert, in their minds, into an airplane that can fly. Their hope is that they can use it to escape from the King and his violence forever.moreless
