Radio Ranch, also known as Men with Steel Faces or Phantom Empire, is a 1940 black-and-white science-fiction action adventure film directed by Otto Brower and B. Reeves Eason. In the movie, Gene Autry (himself) is a singing cowboy who runs a dude ranch. To help pay his bills, Autry broadcasts a daily radio show from the ranch. Coincidentally, his dude ranch is built on top of mystical ancient ruins. In his free time, Autry runs a fantasy club with Frankie Baxter (Frank Duro) and Besty Baxter (Betsy King Ross). The club is called the Junior Thunders, and consists of children dressing up and riding horses pretending to be ancient warriors. Autry feels pressured when his dude ranch is in financial jeopardy, and hopes his radio broadcasts can keep him afloat financially. When a series of unseen events occur, it seems the Junior Riders will have to jump in to action to help Gene.
