Rails and Ties is a 2007 drama directed by Alison Eastwood. Laura Danner (Bonnie Root), a depressed single parent, finally decides to end her own life by parking her car on the Amtrak train rails. Although she tries to force her 10-year-old son Davey (Miles Heizer) to die with her, he manages to escape from the car. When train crewman Tom Stark (Kevin Bacon) sees the car on the tracks, he makes the choice to run over it rather than risk the lives of the passengers on the train by making a sudden stop. After the incident, Tom is suspended from his job and goes home to his wife Megan, who is losing her battle with breast cancer. Megan has decided to stop going to chemotherapy, and Tom does not know how to cope with her impending death. Davey, who blames Tom for his mother's death, soon heads to Tom's house to seek justice. However, his plans change when he meets the kind Megan, who takes the orphan into her home. As Tom, Megan, and Davey gradually form a close bond, they begin the process of healing emotionally and letting go of their pain.moreless
