Rain is a 1932 drama directed by John Colton. After a possible cholera outbreak occurs on their ship, Reverend Alfred Davidson (Walter Huston), Mrs. Davidson (Beulah Bondi), Dr. McPhail (Matt Moore), Mrs. McPhail (Kendall Lee), and Sadie Thompson (Joan Crawford), a prostitute, all must evacuate the ship and stay on the island of Pago Pago. Since it is the rainy season, the five passengers must stay inside their hotel much of the time, so Sadie passes the time by dancing to Victrola music for local marines stationed on the island. Reverend Davidson disapproves of her unladylike revelry, as well as the fact that she drinks alcohol and smokes. When she will not listen to his pleas for her to change her sinful ways, the minister becomes increasingly irritated with her behavior. He also begins to feel frustrated with his own lustful thoughts about the beautiful woman.
