Ramchand Pakistani is an award-winning film directed by Mehreen Jabbar. Its release in 2008 saw it quickly gain a strong following at film festivals across the globe. It is based on a true story, and highlights the ever-present tensions between Pakistan and India. The film is set in 2002 when tension between the two countries were nearing a boiling point. Ramchand (Syed Fazal Hussain) is an 8-year-old Pakistani Hindu, who lives with his parents near the India-Pakistan border. He is sometimes moody, and on this day, one of his moods accidently take him over the border. His father sees him and gives chase. They are both captured by Indian forces. Ramchand's mother, Champa (Nandita Das), realizes what has happened when they don't return home, and all she can do is wait. Her story is one of heartbreak and patience, of which both are great, and she finds the strength to make it through. Will Ramchand and his father spend their lives in an internment for an innocent mistake?moreless
