Rang De Basanti (Paint It Saffron) is an Indian docudrama brought to you by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra in 2006. The film follows aspiring English filmmaker Sue McKinley (Alice Patten) as she travels to India and attempts to make a meaningful documentary about the effects of the British Empire on India. In an effort to stay within a very strict budget, Sue hires five student actors (Aamir Khan, Siddharth, Kunal Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, Atul Kulkarni and Soha Ali Khan) to help her with her project. However, the boys soon realize that their modern lifestyles and customs in no way honor their predecessors who sacrificed so much for their cause. The film includes a beautiful score written by the A. R. Rahman, who composes music for many Indian films. Rang De Basanti won many awards and nominations upon its release in 2006. It also had a significant impact on Indian society, causing many people to question the legitimacy of the Indian government.
