Rating:

Ready to Wear, also known as Pr''t-''-Porter, mixes models, murder and multiple storylines in director Robert Altman's 1994 star-studded tribute to the madness of Paris' Fashion week. The story moves quickly between different characters and scenarios that ultimately lead to one deliciously perfect runway show. A police inspector must solve the sudden death of President of the French Association of the Fashion. Three elite magazine publishers (Tracy Ullman, Sally Kellerman, Linda Hunt) vie for the hottest, and most difficult, photographer in the industry (Stephen Rea), while two fashion designers (Forest Whitaker, Richard E. Grant) try to sort through their complicated love quadrangle. A suitcase mixup leads two reporters (Julia Roberts, Tim Robbins) to forget their news coverage because they're too busy undressing each other. Woven into the character vignettes are real fashion designers (Sonya Rykel, Gianfranco Ferr'', Issey Miyake) and supermodels (Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Christy Turlington). The cumulative effect of the small dramas and famous faces creates an impressionistic portrait of a rarefied world.moreless

Ready to Wear is messy and vaguely nasty -- a blur with attitude.
