Red Sands is a supernatural horror film from director Alex Turner, who made his feature-length directorial debut with Dead Birds. When Specialist Jeff Keller (Shane West) is deployed to Afghanistan, not even his Army training can prepare him for the trials he will face. His platoon is assigned to guard duty on a road used by Al Qaeda for weapons smuggling, although the road seems all but deserted. While scouting the area, they find the remains of an Afghan family, mutilated beyond recognition, near the statue of a Djinn, a type of evil spirit. One of the men begins using the statue as target practice, and it is destroyed in the process. The soldiers move on and must find shelter when a freak sandstorm takes them by surprise. They hole up in an abandoned shack and begin to have horrific visions of their worst fears. As the storm rages around them, the soldiers find themselves faced with a threat more deadly than war in the form of the vengeful Djinn they have unwittingly released.moreless
