Reign Over Me is a 2007 drama that chronicles the friendship between two former college roommates as they attempt to come to terms with life in post-9/11 New York. Directed by Mike Binder, the film centers on Charlie Finnegan (Adam Sandler), a broken man who has lived in despair for the past five years after losing his family in the tragedy. Finnegan was once the life of the party and always successful, especially in the eyes of his old college roommate, Alan Johnson (Don Cheadle). The two friends soon run into each other by chance in Manhattan after years apart and Johnson immediately is surprised by the shell of a man that Finnegan has become. While Finnegan deals with his own problems, Johnson seems to have it all with a great career as a dentist and a beautiful family that he adores. However, the pressure of work and family life has taken a toll on Johnson as well and as the two friends talk, they soon realize that both are at a crossroads where they needed a trusted friend to talk to. As they begin to hang out again, their friendship is renewed and more importantly, their zest for life is restored as both begin to look to the future with hope.
