Replicant is a 2001 Jean-Claude Van Damme science fiction action film directed by Ringo Lam. As the story begins, Edward "The Torch" Garrotte (Jean-Claude Van Damme), has committed the latest in a string of serial killings that have rocked Seattle. Garrotte only kills mothers. After killing them, he sets them on fire. When police Detective Jake Riley (Michael Rooker), who has been tracking Garrrotte throughout his career, retires from the Seattle police force, he is hired by a secret government agency. Using genetic material found at a crime scene, the agency has cloned Garrotte and now wants Riley to train the replicant to track the serial killer down. In addition to being an exact physical duplicate of Garrotte, the replicant has some of Garrotte's memories and a psychic link to his doppelg''nger. The replicant, however, still has the developmental mind of a child. As Riley begins to train the replicant, he begins to suspect that the clone has ideas of his own. As the duo come closer and closer to catching the killer, they each must learn where their loyalties lie. Fans of Jean-Claude Van Damme films will love this mind-bending science fiction thriller.moreless
