Repulsion is a 1965 Roman Polanski thriller starring Catherine Deneuve, Ian Hendry, John Fraser, and Yvonne Furneaux. Deneuve plays Carol Ledoux, a manicurist living in London with her sister Helen (Furneaux). Carol is a troubled woman. Ever since a mysterious tragedy happened to her as a child, she's suffered from severe androphobia, or the irrational fear of men. Any mention of the male sex repulses her. Her sister has struggled to help Carol through daily life, but when Helen leaves for a vacation with her boyfriend Carol's madness worsens. Eventually she's forced into interaction with a would-be suitor and her male landlord. The men will have to be on their very best behavior if they want to survive Carol's dark impulses. Repulsion is the first English language film made by acclaimed director Roman Polanski, whose films would go on to receive over 25 Academy Award nominations including several for Best Picture.
