Requiem for a Dream (Director's Cut) is the searing 2000 adaptation of Hubert Selby, Jr.'s hard hitting novel that examines drug addiction and its consequences on a group of hapless young adults. Harry (Jared Leto, Fight Club, Panic Room) is a drug dealing youth in a seedy part of Brooklyn, New York, who goes so far as pawning his television obsessed mother Sara's (Ellen Burstyn, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, The Exorcist, The Wicker Man) most prized asset, her tube, for money. The film cross cuts between Harry and his buddy Tyronne's (Marlon Wayans) struggled to sell of a big score of narcotics with which to break out of their environs for good, taking along Harry's stunning, aspiring fashion designer girlfriend Marion (Jennifer Connolly, The Hulk, A Beautiful Mind, Labyrinth, The Rocketeer) and between Sara's quest to lose weight to fit into a red dress again for an appearance on her favorite television show, which she's resorting to dangerous weight loss drugs to aid in her quest.moreless
