Reservation Road is a 2007 drama from writer-director Terry George (Hotel Rwanda) that stars Mark Ruffalo, Joaquin Phoenix, Mira Sorvino, and Jennifer Connelly in a story about the consequences of a tragic hit-and-run car accident, based on the novel of the same name by John Burnham Schwartz. Ruffalo plays Dwight Arno, a divorced lawyer with visitation rights to his son, Lucas (Eddie Alderson). One day Dwight accidentally keeps Lucas past the agreed upon time limit for his visit. Fearing his ex-wife will use the error to strip him of his rights, Dwight frantically drives Lucas home. During the drive, Dwight hits and kills a young boy. Dwight lies to his son about what they hit and continues to drive him home, but Dwight can't leave the incident behind him. Ethan Learner (Phoenix), the father of the dead child, is wracked with grief and enraged at the lack of progress the police are making in finding the killer. When Ethan hires Dwight to help him solve the case, the two men begin a dangerous game of deception that could destroy them both.
