Retroactive is a 1997 science-fiction thriller directed by Louis Morneau. The action surrounds Karen (Kylie Travis), a psychiatrist working as a hostage negotiator for the Chicago Police Department. When one of Karen's negotiations goes deadly wrong, she decides to give up her career and heads to her childhood home in Texas. Along the way, her car breaks down and she accepts a ride from Frank (James Belushi) and his ex-wife Rayanne (Shannon Whirry). The couple seems suspicious to the trained psychiatrist and she quickly realizes that Frank is violently insane. Horrifically, Frank kills Rayanne at a truck stop and Karen barely escapes to a nearby laboratory where she meets scientist Brian (Frank Whaley). Brian creates a time machine which places Karen a few hours in the past. She tries to prevent the murder from happening, but only causes more violence. Desperate to save Rayanne's life, she continues to use the time machine, each time hoping that she will be successful. In this ultimate test, will Karen finally be able to prove her negotiating skills, or is she destined to keep reliving this bloody horror?moreless
