Return of the Living Dead 3 is the second sequel of the popular zombie trilogy which started with the 1985 cult classic by Dan O'Bannon, writer of Alien. This one is directed by Reanimator series producer cum director Brian Yuzna and written by John Penney of The Kindred fame. In the film, teenage rebel Curt Reynolds (J. Trevor Edmund, Pumpkinhead II, Meatballs 4)just so happens to be the son of a high ranking Colonel (Kent McCord, Predator 2) who is eyeball deep in the nefarious Trioxin project whose main focus is to weaponize the brain eating reanimated dead which the gas has inadvertently effected for the past two films. Wanting to impress his darkly sexy girlfriend Julie (Melinda Clarke of Spawn and The OC fame), the delinquent hocks his father's security code and sneaks Julie in to witness a demonstration of the gas's restorative properties. Things soon take a turn for the worse however when, after exposure to the strange gas, Julie starts to exhibit some singularly undead qualities.moreless

Metacritic Score

  • 60

    Time Out

Yuzna and fx maestro Steve Johnson put human flesh on the plot's bare bones, without ever losing sight of the central offbeat romance.

  • 50

    Los Angeles Times Peter Rainer

Return of Living Dead 3 isn't bad for what it is but it's the genre itself that needs reanimation.

  • 50

The New York Times Janet Maslin

Return of the Living Dead 3 has more visual than dramatic flair, with the actors most memorable for their sharply-lit cheekbones and upstaged regularly by the macabre special effects.
