Return to Peyton Place is a 1961 drama about the residents of a small town and the drama caused by one of their former neighbors. A sequel to the 1957 film "Peyton Place," the story follows Allison MacKenzie (Carol Lynley), a young woman who grew up in Peyton Place. Eager to put her experiences to good use, Allison writes a scandalous and semi-autobiographical novel, clearly drawing on Peyton Place and its residents. She travels to New York and meets her dashing publisher, Lewis (Jeff Chandler), who thinks that Allison's novel has a good chance of succeeding. It turns out he is right, much to the dismay and amusement of Allison's old friends and neighbors. Her mother, Constance (Eleanor Parker), is disappointed and disgusted, while her stepfather Mike (Robert Sterling) defies the whole town by displaying it prominently in the high school library. Meanwhile, the influential and overbearing Roberta Carter (Mary Astor) is dealing with a new daughter-in-law, Raffaella (Luciana Paluzzi) and young Selena (Tuesday Weld) is trying to deal with secrets of her own. The small New England town tries to recuperate after Allison's novel exposes their vices to the whole world.moreless
