Reunion is a creative interpretation of the documentary genre. At first it presents itself as a solid documentary of facts and events in the world. However, it's quickly made clear that the movie is actually trying to document the nature of our culture's relation to the afterlife. To carry out this mission, we're introduced to a disembodied voice, which narrates some points in the world and his own life. It's eventually made clear that the voice belongs to a man who has died, and is in the process of trying to make his continued existence clear to the wife he left behind. In doing so, he encounters various views of what an afterlife entails. The turning point is when a medium enters into the narrative, and a bridge between the worlds is finally established. While the central character is fictional, as are many of the events, it is a documentary and serves to offer points for discussion. Primary among them is the focus on Mavis Pittilla. Pittilla appears as herself, and acts as the main focus for the audience in determining the movie's overall message.moreless
