Ride the High Country is a Western set in a mining town in the mountains of California. Directed by Sam Peckinpah, this movie has an old-time narrative involving gold, thieves and damsels in distress. Steve Judd (Joel McCrea), an ex-marshal, is hired to transport gold from the mining town through some dangerous and rugged territory. Judd contacts an old partner of his, Gil Westrum (Randolph Scott), to assist in the delivery. Gil brings along his proteg'', Heck (Ron Starr), as extra support. What Steve doesn't know is that Gil and Heck are intent on making off with the gold, whether Steve helps or not. Throwing a wrench into their plans is Elsa (Mariette Hartley), who is trying to escape from her father and fianc''e. They meet along the trail and, given the circumstances, are forced to help. Will Gil and Heck abscond with the gold and leave Steve stranded? Can he prevent them from making off with the loot? What will happen to Elsa?
