Ridin' on a Rainbow is a fun-filled family Western musical complete with bank robberies, parades, pretty women, and sweet justice. The arrival of a showboat and its minstrel show to a small western town is greeted by a grand parade. Using the excitement as cover, bandits commit a double murder during a bank robbery. Rancher Gene Autry (himself) assists in trying to recover the money, and his only lead is Pop Evans (Byron Foulger), the showboat clown. Pop has hidden the money on the boat with his singing teenage daughter, Patsy (Mary Lee), planning to set it aside for her future. She, however, has conflicted feelings about her father's actions, and she and her trained dog get caught up in the investigation. Gene and his sidekick, Smiley (Frog), go undercover as entertainers on the showboat to determine the whereabouts of the stolen bills and apprehend the perpetrators, and the result is both entertaining and thrilling, as any western musical should be.moreless
