Rio Bravo is a classic 1959 Western starring John Wayne as a sheriff trying to save a town under siege. In Rio Bravo Texas, Sheriff John T. Chance (John Wayne) arrests Joe Burdette (Claude Akins) for killing an unarmed man. Unfortunately for Chance, Joe has a powerful and wealthy brother, Nathan Burdette (John Russell), who sends his hired guns to cut off the town and break his brother out of jail. For help, Chance only has an elderly old deputy named Stumpy (Walter Brennan) and former lawman, Dude (Dean Martin), who has spent the last two years nursing a broken heart with whiskey. While waiting for the help of the U.S. Marshall, Chance enlists the help of Colorado Ryan (Ricky Nelson), a young gunman, while also arguing with Feathers (Angie Dickinson), a dancer and suspected card cheat held in the jail. Director Howard Hawks blends comedy with fierce gun battles in this quintessential John Wayne picture.
