Rock Around the Clock is a 1956 music movie that took the world by storm with its bold presentation of the then new and rebellious sounds of rock and roll music. In 1956, rock and roll was just beginning to become the commercial juggernaut that would dominate popular music for decades to come. Kids loved it, parents feared it, and record companies wanted a piece of it. Rock Around the Clock stars Bill Haley and His Comets, the band behind the smash-hit single the film takes its name from. The film's plot creates a fictional account of the origin of rock and roll, and features seventeen performances of popular hits by Bill Haley, Tony Martinez, Freddie Bell and the Bellboys, and The Platters. The film also features radio legend Alan Freed, the disc jockey who helped bring rock and roll to mainstream prominence. Rock Around the Clock was a huge success in box offices, despite being banned in many places due to its tendency to incite rowdy behavior in the audience.moreless
