Rolling Stones: Stones in Exile documents the creation of a rock and roll masterpiece, "Exile on Main Street." At the height of their popularity and notoriety, the Rolling Stones left Britain due to repressive tax and drug laws. Director Stephen Kijak combines footage from the 1971 recording sessions at Keith Richards' villa in the South of France, which included the classic "Tumbling Dice" and "Happy" tracks. He then follows the album's evolution, to the second set of recording sessions in Los Angeles. With the album completed, the band begins their highly anticipated 1972 North American Tour. Alongside the historical footage, the film includes present day interviews with the Stones (Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor) reflecting on the seminal album's creation and response. Stones' fans will want to see the excerpts from the scandalous, never released Robert Frank documentary that chronicled the wild behind-the-scenes lifestyle of a rock and roll tour.moreless
