Romancing the Stone is the first beloved blockbuster from hit maker Rober Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Cast Away, Contact, Used Cars, What Lies Beneath). It is a tale of high adventure concerning Joan Wilder, shut in romance writer who writes even more florid that usual swooning literary melodramas but is lacking in actual love and adventure in her personal life. Suddenly, her sister is abducted and held for ransom, holding the key to a highly prized and valuable gem stone wanted by a bevy of scurvy Latin American bad guys who will stop at nothing to get it and use Joan's sister as a bargaining chip. Thus, Joan resolves to go down to the jungle and snatch her sister back from the clutches of the villains. When she gets there, she finds herself way in over her head, battling the local terrain as well as the locals themselves, finally hooking up with American adventurer Jack T.
