Rope of Sand follows the exploits of handsome survivalist Mike Davis (Burt Lancaster) who, while exploring a vast desert in southern Africa, uncovers a treasure trove of diamonds. An industrialist with a huge diamond company wants to know the resting place of the gems, and sends the muscle of Paul Vogel (Paul Henreid) to extract the information from the hunter, whatever nasty means necessary. Arthur Martingale (Claude Rains) joins Vogel in the torment of Davis, going so far as to violently torture the man for the location of the diamonds. Davis does not relent and remains silent. When brawn fails, the company sends in the beauty of Suzanne Renaud (Corinne Calvet) to convince Davis to disclose his secret. Will he simply take the fortune of glittering jewels away with him, or will Mike Davis succumb to the delights of a beautiful lady? That is the mystery behind Rope of Sand.moreless
