Rudo y Cursi is a 2008 comedy directed by Carlos Cuaran. Beto (Diego Luna) and Tato (Gael Garcia Bernal) are half-brothers, both working on a Mexican banana plantation. The two brothers have their differences: Beto dreams of becoming a soccer star while Tato wants to become a famous singer. Instead both brothers work hard, surrounded by their often squabbling extended family. One day, in a rare streak of luck, a talent scout spots Beto and Tato playing soccer and recruits them for the big leagues. The brothers enjoy a meteoric rise to soccer stardom, leaving their old working class life far behind them. The loving fans give nicknames to each brother, calling Beto "Rudo" because of his sharp temper and Tato "Cursi" for his sentimental side. Rudo and Cursi begin to forget their family obligations, becoming involved in gambling, drugs and beautiful women. It starts to seem doubtful that Rudo and Cursi will ever return to their working class roots and give their mother the beautiful new house they once promised her.moreless
