Run Away Home is a 2004 film adaptation of the novel Some Things that Stay by Sarah Willis, a coming of age story set in rural America during the 1950s. Tamara Anderson (Katie Boland) is the 15-year-old daughter of landscape artist Stewart Anderson (Stewart Wilson), having spent the majority of her life moving from state to state on her father's fanciful whims. Upon arriving in rural New York, Tamara and her siblings feel an immediate sense of belonging despite a morbid history behind their new house and conflicting viewpoints between their vehemently atheist household and the local Christian townsfolk. Tamara meets a neighborhood boy, Rusty Murphy, (Kevin Zegers) who begins teaching Tamara to explore limits of love, faith, and her own budding sexuality. When her mother Liz (Alberta Watson) is diagnosed with advanced tuberculosis and committed to a sanatorium, her awakening faith comes into conflict with her mother's ideals. As an exploration of conflicted views, maturity, bonds of blood and the passions that drive us, Run Away Home is an introspective and quiet dissertation on the philosophical questions each of us must face.moreless
