Russian Dolls is a 2005 sequel to the 2002 film L'Auberge Espagnole. The first film followed a group of ambitious young multiculutral people living together in Barcelona over the summer. Russian Dolls picks up with their lives five years later. Xavier (Romain Duris) is fast approaching his 30th birthday and is starting to reevaluate all his decisions in life. Although he is a talented writer, Xavier has scrapped together a living with transitory and often demeaning jobs. Although Xavier is charming, he cannot stop flirting long enough to actually work on a serious, lasting relationship. Seeing his chances at true love and a prestigious career slipping away, Xavier leans on his friend and ex-roommate, Isabelle (C''cile de France), while he tries to find the answers. His new coworker, Wendy (Kelly Reilly) seems like the perfect match for Xavier, but her brother, William (Kevin Bishop), is taking up her mental energy with his own issues. Beautiful and cavalier Martine (Audrey Tatou) tries to offer advice to the group of friends, but it becomes clear that they all need to follow different paths to happiness.moreless
