Safe Men is an Indie 1998 crime comedy from writer/director John Hamburg of I Love You, Man fame. Sam (Sam Rockwell) and Eddie (Steve Zahn) are two singers with a painfully bad lounge act in Providence, Rhode Island. One night, Veal Chop (Paul Giamatti), a henchman for local mobster Big Fat Bernie Gayle (Michael Lerner), approaches them in the bar. He has mistaken them for master safecrackers, and wants their help to break into the home of Goodstuff Leo (Harvey Fierstein). He spins a wild tale of how this old man forgot his combination and they would be performing a good deed. Sam and Eddie decide to help, not knowing that they have actually placed themselves in the middle of a Jewish mob war. In actuality, both of these gangsters wants a valuable cup to present at a bar mitzvah. Meanwhile, Sam finds himself falling for Hannah (Christina Kirk), Bernie's lovely daughters who refuses to date gangsters. At the same time, soft-spoken Frank (Mark Ruffalo), an actual safecracker, is working for the other side.
