Sagebrush Trail is a black and white 1933 Western film that tells the fate-driven tale of John Brant (John Wayne), a man imprisoned for a murder he did not commit. Brant manages to escape from jail and, in an effort to shake away an undeserved past he'd rather forget about, joins up with a gang of outlaws led by a man named Jones. Brant comes to discover that the man he has come to respect, Jones, is the one responsible for the crime he had been imprisoned for earlier but passes no judgment on Jones for his own decisions. The star-crossed meeting of the two inevitably connected men, however, is an easy opportunity for Jones to take advantage of for his own personal benefit. The conflict between these two men intertwines their fates to the point where fatal confrontation seems to be the only way one can live a common life.
