Saint Ralph is a 2004 Canadian film written and directed by Michael McGowan. Ralph Walker (Adam Butcher) is a high school student at a private Catholic school. When Ralph is caught smoking cigarettes and masturbating, he is forced to the join the schools cross-country team. Ralph's father died in World War II and his mother is in the hospital in a coma. Ralph believes that if he wins the Boston Marathon that a miracle will happen and his mother will be wake up. While at first Ralph isn't even able to keep up with his teammates, his hard work pays off and Ralph becomes the school's best runner. The head priest learns of Ralph's plan and forbids him from participating in the marathon, but Ralph does so anyway. Also starring Campbell Scott, Gordon Pinsent, Shauna MacDonald, Tamara Hope, and Jennifer Tilly, Saint Ralph was moderately received by critics, with many citing the well-worn path of the story.
