Saleslady is a 1938 romantic comedy from director Arthur Greville Collins that takes a look at what happens when people aren't completely honest with those they love. Anne Nagel is Mary Bacon Spencer, the granddaughter of mattress tycoon Miles Cannon (Harry Davenport). Mary is sick and tired of men who show an interest in her just for her money. She takes on a new name, Mary Dakin, and goes to work as a saleslady at a department store. There, she meets and falls in love with Bob Spencer (Weldon Heyburn), who has no idea that his new girlfriend is an heiress. Mary and Bob get married, and live comfortably until Bob unexpectedly loses his job. Mary reluctantly tells him of her true identity. Furious with her deception, Bob goes to work for Crane, one of Miles Cannon's competitors. Only then must Mary face the mess that her deception has caused, and desperately try to find harmony between the two men she loves, her husband and her grandfather.moreless
