Sangaree is set in the years directly after the American Revolution. During the American Revolution a general's last wish was that his doctor and most trusted confidant, Carlos Morales (Fernando Lamas) take over his plantation, Sangaree. Morales isn't sure that he wants the responsibility of controlling the whole plantation and shows reluctance. One reason is because Sangaree is where his own father served as an indentured servant before the war. Finally Morales agrees in order to appease his friend and give him peace on his death-bed, but once the general dies, running the plantation isn't an easy job. The general's daughter and her fiance believe that they are the rightful owners of the plantation and fight with Morales as he tries to take full control of Sangaree. Throughout the movie Morales must contend with the two and find a way to control the plantation while keeping all of his newfound workers safe.
