Savage Sam is a 1963 family dog movie released by Walt Disney and directed by Norman Tokar. It is the sequel to Old Yeller written by Fred Gipson. Savage Sam is a Bluetick Coonhound, the son of the courageous Old Yeller, and loyal family dog to the Coates family. Excluding minor familial arguments between brothers, all is well in the lives of the Coates family. But amidst complacency and carelessness, Travis (Tommy Kirk), his big brother, Arliss (Kevin Corcoran), and their neighbor, Lisbeth Searcy (Marta Kristen), are captured by Native Americans. The children's fathers gather with the local town men into a search party. Only when Travis manages to escape his captors and finds the search party does the band realize what they are up against. Can they rescue the kids all on their own? It seems as though this is Savage Sam's chance to live up to his father's legacy.
