Scenes from the Suburbs is a 2010 short directed by Spike Jonze. The film is based on an album from the band Arcade Fire and features songs from the album as a soundtrack. In the bland suburbs of a seemingly ordinary American town, unexpected violence is taking place. The suburban communities are constantly at war with each other, meaning that fully armed soldiers roam the streets and everyone has to be on guard. In this landscape, with its strange mix of military threat and neatly manicured lawns, a group of teenage friends struggle to find their own identities and form their own connections. Terrance (Justin Arnold), Vicky (Shannon Honeybloom) and their friends drift from one house to another, trying to avoid military conflict. Their everyday lives as teenagers are colored by the constant threat hanging over their heads, especially after they witness a stranger (Marcel D'Zama) die at the end of a military gun.
