Movie Summary

Robert Mandel

School Ties is the acclaimed 1992 sport drama featuring an all-star cast of young up and coming talent, directed by Robert Mandel (F/X, The Substitute, Big Shots). The story is set in the 1950's at an expensive boys' prep school. David Green (Brendan Fraser, The Mummy, Gods and Monsters, Dudley Do Right), is at the school to help its football team win, replacing former quarterback, Charlie (Matt Damon, Saving Private Ryan, The Departed, The Bourne Identity, The Adjustment Bureau), who is naturally jealous. David fears rejection because he is from a working class family. Not only that, but he is Jewish and is encouraged to hide the fact due to anti Semitic sentiments among the students, faculty, and parents. Further complications arise when David becomes involved with a pretty girl named Sally (Amy Locane), whom Charlie claims as his own girlfriend. Chris O'Donnell shines as David's friendly roommate Chris Reece, as does Ben Affleck in another supporting bigot role.
