Movie Summary

Director:
Wes Craven
Released:
1998
Rating:
R

Scream 2 is the first sequel to the 1996 horror sensation from master of horror Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street, Last House on the Left, The Hills Have Eyes, The Serpent and the Rainbow, The People Under the Stairs) and screenwriter Kevin Williamson (The Faculty, Teaching Ms. Tingle). The film follows the first picture's 'final girl' Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell, The Craft) all the way to college, where she's just trying to pick up the pieces, get on with her life and get an education. But when murders echoing those she faced in her hometown start plaguing those around her at the college, she finds herself caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse with her old Ghost face Killer nemesis again. Back again are her Deputy friend Dewey (David Arquette) and her journalist-now-author-annoyance Gale Weathers (Courtney Cox) as well as a whole slew of new characters that may or may not be responsible for the grisly, genre related slayings.

Metacritic Score

  • 80

    Variety David Rooney

Visceral, witty and appropriately redundant, the sequel has a winning commercial recipe that's certain to cook up excellent returns in all areas.

  • 70

The New York Times Elvis Mitchell

Even if you haven't spent as much obsessive time at the video store as these guys have, you might enjoy helping 'Scream 2' laugh all the way to the bank.

  • 50

    Los Angeles Times Kevin Thomas

Contrivance and a horrendous body count combine to yield a morbid effect for discriminating filmgoers, despite a comic tone. Still, there's enough ingenuity and scariness to please...
