Searching for Bobby Fischer is a 1993 drama starring gifted child actor Max Pomeranc and based on the book of the same name by Fred Waitzkin. Waitzkin's son, Joshua Waitzkin, is the subject of both the book and the film. As a child, Josh became recognized as a prodigy at the game of chess. A native of New York City, he was first exposed to the ancient strategy game in Washington Sqaure Park, where he saw the famous lines of tables with chess players in the middle of heated competitions. His family quickly realizes Josh's affection for the game is abnormal for a child his age. Ben Kingsley plays Bruce Pandolfini, a chess coach hired by the family to train Josh. Pandolfini teaches Josh about Bobby Fischer, one of the world's all-time greatest chess players who also achieved success as a young man. Through the example of Fischer, Josh learns how to excel as a player, but he'll have to create his own style if he wants to become a truly unpredictable opponent. Searching for Bobby Fischer is a heart-warming story about competition and passion, co-starring Laurence Fishburne and William H. Macy.moreless
