Seaside (Bord de Mer) is a 2003 film centered around the inhabitants of a small beach town named Cayeux, which lies on the coast of Northern France. The film was directed by French documentarian Julie Lopes-Curval (Mademoiselle Butterfly, Toi et Moi, Meres et filles). Cayeux is a mercurial beach covered in pebbles where changes in season - spring, summer, winter, fall - effect the general mood in town. At first glance, all characters seem alike and are indistinguishable from one another, but the tides soon erode the blank exteriors of each character, revealing their individual nuances. At the center of it all is a young woman named Marie (Helene Fillieres), a factory worker who sorts pebbles for a living. She dreams of leaving her sleepy town for an adventurous life abroad. But with such a good understanding for those around her, will she be able to leave Cayeux for a romantic life in warm climate? Seaside also includes performances by Jonathan Zaccai, Bulle Ogier, Ludmila Mika'l, Liliane Rovere, Patrick Lizana, Jean-Michel Noirey, Audrey Bonnet, Jauris Casanova, and Fabien Orcier.moreless
