Second Chorus, produced in 1941, pairs trumpet players Danny O'Neill (Fred Astaire) and Hank Taylor (Burgess Meredith) as the two men try to get hired by bandleader Artie Shaw. Danny and Hank have been in college for over seven years, continually failing courses so they can retain their carefree lifestyle and advertise their band as a college orchestra. Finally, they graduate and set out to make it on their own as professional musicians. They team up with manager Ellen Miller (Paulette Goddard), who might be the key to getting them into Artie Shaw's band. Ellen gets hired as a secretary to Artie Shaw and convinces him to audition Danny and Hank. A classic early 1940s musical, Fred Astaire and Paulette Goddard are featured in several dance numbers, including the swing number "Dig It (I Ain't Hep to That Step)" and the music of Artie Shaw is showcased in the movie's soundtrack, "Concerto for Clarinet."
