Movie Summary

Director:
Roger Donaldson
Released:
2011
Rating:
R
When his wife (January Jones) is savagely attacked, a humble English teacher (Nicolas Cage) is forced to make a tough choice: Should he leave the investigation up to the police, or should he entertain an offer from a vigilante gang with the skills to retaliate? Of course, if he chooses the latter, the service won't come free; he'll have to pull a job for them in return. Guy Pearce co-stars in this thriller directed by Roger Donaldson.

Metacritic Score

  • 50

    Los Angeles Times Robert Abele

The busy star (Cage) acquits himself well enough in this otherwise rudimentary thriller from deliriously unsubtle director Roger Donaldson.

  • 40

The New York Times Jeannette Catsoulis

Mr. Donaldson has proven deftness with panting plots and knife-edge tension, but this cobbled-together noir does him no justice at all.

  • 38

    Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert

Here is a story hammered together from discards at the Lunacy Factory. Attempting to find something to praise, I am reduced to this: Cage's performance is not boring.
