Sentencing The Victim is a documentary following the horrific saga behind the the rape and subsequent continual hearings that Joanna Katz has had to face in her life. On June 17th 1988 Joanna and another room were abducted by armed men, taken to an empty house in Charleston, South Carolina and viciously raped, tortured and beaten by five men for over five hours. Unbelievably she managed to survive, escaping from the assailants and saving herself and her friend from almost definite death. Since she survived she was able to get her assailants convicted for their dreadful crimes. However the horror didn't end there. Due to South Carolina Law, felons convicted before 1996 can get considered for parole every 2 years. This means Joanna must continually face her assailants in parole hearings over and over again, thereby having to relive her horrible experience repeatedly. The documentary reveals the inherent problems of the justice system and how it may be hurting those who it should be protecting most.moreless
